The Wind Investment Awards will be back in 2027, offering you an opportunity to highlight your contributions to project development, technological advancements, financial excellence, and much more.

The Wind Investment Awards 2026 had 25 categories split into 5 judging criteria groups

COMPANY AWARDS

Asset Management Team of the Year

The award will be presented to the asset management team, either in-house or operating as a standalone business, that can demonstrate the most impactful wind energy asset management and optimisation activities.

Proactive asset management and optimisation has consistently proved to be one of the best ways for wind farm owners and investors to improve asset efficiency, control operational costs and drive up profit margins in their portfolios. Get it right, and the sum of marginal gains can be considerable.

However, optimal asset management strategies vary considerably across different territories, based on a seemingly never-ending variety of factors.

Have your decisions helped ensure the best possible return on investment throughout the lifetime of your wind projects? Has your approach to asset management helped boost profit margins? Have you found commercially compelling, or perhaps even unique, ways to reduce operating and maintenance costs? How are you integrating software, either proprietary or from third party suppliers, to support these goals?

Judges will be looking for the team to have achieved the most significant, demonstrable impacts through proactive asset management this year.

Developer of the Year

This award will be presented to a developer of impactful wind energy investment projects.

Onshore and offshore wind farms offer an established and proven model for the buildout of sustainable and reliable electricity markets. However, as the market has matured, so too must the development strategies of those working within it. Developers currently face a host of challenges due to inflation, supply chain disruption, transmission, slow permitting, and more.

Has your business successfully navigated these challenges to develop wind projects in one or multiple territories this year? In bringing new projects to the market, can you clearly articulate the technical and commercial strategies employed? Have you been first to market or meaningfully evolved the development status quo? Can you draw a clear line between your development strategy and investor returns?

For this award, judges are open to entries from wind farm developers. Judges are looking for a developer that has applied fresh thinking to a proven track record.

Energy Trading Team of the Year

This award will be presented to the energy trading desk or team showing the strongest evidence of material improvement to the financial performance of a wind farm or wind portfolio.

As the wind energy market has evolved, so too have the electricity trading generating strategies that underpin its success. Trading strategies have become increasingly sophisticated, enabling equally sophisticated project finance strategies that have continued to unlock new project investment.

What steps have you taken to evolve the strategies of your trading desk or team? Can you point towards a meaningful financial improvement as a result?  Can you clearly communicate how your approach has helped set you apart from your peers?

Financial Adviser of the Year

The award will be presented to the financial adviser showing the strongest evidence of financial innovation on transactions and/or advisory work in relation to wind energy investment.

When it comes to getting a deal done, the very best financial advisers recognise the importance of innovative thinking, strong commercial relationships and that all-important ability to never lose sight of the core strengths of the project and its partners. Very often the best thinking within financial advisory isn’t always undertaken on the biggest deals but on the smaller, more complex projects that play their own important part in the industry growth.

Do you provide financial advice that your clients in the wind industry couldn’t do without? Do you implement financial strategies and thinking that enable complex projects to successfully raise and secure finance, and that set you apart from your peers? Have you had a clear and proven track record of success in the last 12 months – with multiple examples of projects that you can point towards?

The judges are looking to reward the brightest and best financial adviser, either an independent or part of a bank/lender institution, in wind today.

Given recent growth in this area of the market, judges will also have their eyes open for strong examples of new market entrants making waves and may, at their discretion, choose to recognise the best of these as Emerging Financial Advisory of the Year.  If your business has been trading for 24 months or less and you wish to be considered for this potential sub-category too, please specify in your submission.

Insurance Adviser of the Year

This award will be presented to the insurance adviser that has shown exemplary support to wind energy project owners this year.

It will identify the insurance adviser most relied upon by developers, owners and operators to manage project risks – ranging from delay in start-up, cargo and transit issues to natural catastrophes, cyberattacks, operational damage, and equipment failure.

Has your insurance advisory team developed and/or rolled out insurance products that help clients in the wind industry to navigate risk and operate profitably? What steps are you taking to improve standards in the onshore and/or offshore wind industry? Can you articulate what sets your strategy and thinking apart from others?

As the volume of claims in the insurance market escalates, what steps are you taking to support risk managers and the insureds as they battle with increasingly tight operating margins and the complexities of wind turbine downtime?

This award is most applicable to insurance advisers including, but not limited to: insurance brokers, insurance risk managers, insurance claims adjusters, loss adjusters or insurance underwriters.

Sponsored by:

Investor of the Year

This award will be presented to the investor with the most compelling evidence of a wind investment strategy being successfully implemented in the deployment of equity.

While a proven global investment asset class today’s wind investors must balance risks stemming from inflation, supply chain disruption and political change in key renewable energy markets in the last two years.

Have you and your team deployed a robust investment strategy that navigates the risks and unlocks the sector’s continued growth potential? Can you demonstrate how and why your investment strategy generates positive results? Can you articulate what sets your strategy and thinking apart from others?

Judges are looking for companies with credible, proven investment strategies that meaningfully accelerate the global energy transition.

Law Firm of the Year

The award will be presented to the legal adviser showing the most extensive knowledge, expertise, and dedication to wind energy investment across transactions and/or advisory work.

With multiple asset classes, counterparties, geographies and regulatory frameworks to consider, good legal advice is crucial to the success of today’s fast-moving wind industry.

Do you provide specialist wind energy legal advice and can you demonstrate a track record of success in the past 12 months? Can you clearly articulate how and why your legal advisory service is unmatched in the market? Can you point to examples of sector-shaping, headline projects that you have been mandated to support? And equally, can you provide examples of more niche, specialist support that might not always attract the trade media headlines but that nonetheless helps to drive the market forwards?

Judges will be looking for the legal advisory firm that has become indispensable to wind developers and investors this year.

Lender of the Year

This award will be presented to the banking institution with the most compelling evidence of a lending strategy for global wind projects being implemented successfully.

In a tough market, the right debt package can be the difference between the success and failure of a project. Have you demonstrated clear and consistent lending commitment to the wind energy market? Have you and your team gone above and beyond the traditionally accepted status quo to put in place financial packages that help bring unusual or complex projects to life? Or have you simply outperformed others in the market, through regular and consistent lending commitments that have made a meaningful impact in the market?

Judges want to hear how and why your lending strategies stand head and shoulders above others in the market.

Technical Adviser of the Year

This award will be presented to the technical advisory showing the strongest evidence of innovative technical advice on wind energy transactions and/or advisory work.

As the volume and complexity of wind projects accelerates, so too does the need for expert technical advice and engineering support. However, only the very best technical adviser can strike a balance between technical know-how and commercial returns.

Can you demonstrate a clear and proven track record of delivering this advice for financiers, investors and developers in the global wind market? Can you point to specific examples where your advice has enabled key project partners to either increase projected returns or drive greater efficiencies within significant wind development portfolios? Can you clearly and consistently articulate what makes your services different from those of your peers? Can you explain why you successfully win and work on complex projects that would leave others in the shade?

For this award, judges are looking for the technical adviser displaying both technical understanding and commercial acumen. They’re looking for one firm that stands out from its peers thanks to its depth of knowledge, strength of team, ambition and sense of purpose.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AWARD

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award

This award celebrates organisations harnessing a truly diverse workforce.  It will recognise the most impactful, organisation-wide achievements in EDI.  The award recognises the company or team that is making the biggest impact in building a truly diverse workforce and that excels in its commitment to the promotion of EDI in all strands of diversity.

As the wind industry continues to grow, we believe that its continued success is linked directly to the diversity of experience and thinking among those working in it. Can you explain how and why your business promotes diversity of experience and thought? Can you point towards specific policies or actions that you and your team have introduced to champion diversity through gender, race, sexual orientation, disability inclusion and/or gender identity?

Judges will be looking for genuine commitment to and promotion of EDI, together with clear evidence of the benefits a truly diverse workforce is bringing to your organisation.

INNOVATION & ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award

This award recognises the company or team delivering exceptional work in the operation and maintenance of a portfolio of onshore and/or offshore wind farms.  The team driving business success and setting industry best practice.

O&M businesses and professionals are often the unsung heroes in the wind energy space, since by the very nature of the work, the intent is to largely go unnoticed.

Yet this work invariably helps wind farm owners and operators to maximise output and financial returns. Whether for external O&M companies or as in-house O&M specialists, operations and maintenance professionals contribute directly to financial success in a tough market.

Did you deliver innovative or industry-leading operations and maintenance strategies in 2025 that helped wind farm owners and operators to drive business success? Can you point towards a specific operations and maintenance project or campaign that meaningfully improved the operating and financial performance of a project?  Can you identify the key challenges and obstacles that you successfully overcame? What makes your achievements stand out from the rest?

Power-to-X Innovation Award

This award recognises the financial or technical innovation that led the way in the development of a power-to-X project, wherein one of the key electricity sources for the project is wind.

The production of green hydrogen, green ammonia and other similar power-to-X products is increasingly recognised as a compelling option for wind and solar energy developers when power prices are low. In addition, the users of hydrogen and other fuels are under increased pressure to source greener fuels, in sectors including chemicals production, steelmaking and aviation.

However, while the technology required is well understood, the market growth trajectory remains inconsistent and the offtake strategy incomplete. This award celebrates those leading projects and innovations to have found a way forward.

Are you one of these industry pioneers that has successfully led the way in bringing a project or transaction to financial close? Has your project, or your commercial thinking, shown others how it should be done? Or have you developed technical innovations that will unlock new power-to-X developments and investments?

Judges are looking for a developer or advisory business that has shown clear commitment to this area of the market and that can evidence how they have advanced the scale up of green hydrogen, green ammonia or similar power-to-X products.

Repowering Achievement of the Year

This award will be presented to the company or team that has truly led the way in the repowering of onshore and/or offshore wind farms this year.

Repowering projects are still relatively new in the wind industry, and we are looking to shine a light on the most ambitious and the most innovative achievements to date. The projects that turned the best wind farm sites into the best wind energy generators. The strategies that delivered game-changing longevity and financial success.

Did you deliver innovative or industry-leading repowering projects in 2025 that helped wind farm owners and operators to achieve their financial goals? How have your achievements in repowering established best practice that others in the industry should follow? What makes your achievements stand out and what are you most proud of?

Technical Innovation Award

This award will be presented to the company that has successfully commercialised an original technical innovation, either through hardware, software or a mix of both, unlocking future finance, development and/or operational efficiencies.

We believe the future success of the wind energy market lies as much in continued technical innovation as it does in development of new projects. We believe that it’s this original thinking, when commercialised, that can help drive meaningful, long-term change.

Does your company focus on improving the performance of existing wind farms and their operational efficiency? Has your company successfully developed hardware, software or a combination of both, to shine a light on areas of inefficiency or confusion that, if not addressed, present a meaningful roadblock to the project and potentially the wider market? Can you demonstrate the potential cost reductions that your technology unlocks? And do you have evidence that this has already been achieved?

Transmission Achievement of the Year

This award recognises the company or team that has delivered the most exceptional work in either financing or developing new transmission infrastructure for a wind sector asset.

Transmission remains one of the biggest challenges for the owners and operators of onshore and offshore wind farms.  Rising to the challenge is non-negotiable.

Did you develop, finance or build a transmission project in 2025 that played a key role in the success of an onshore or offshore wind project? Have you developed an innovative technical solution to bolster the transmission/grid connectivity challenge and/or support the smooth delivery of wind power to electricity users? What makes your achievements in transmission stand out?

Judges are looking for a financier, developer, asset manager or operations team that has brought fresh thinking and enthusiasm to a long-standing challenge, to realise positive, commercially focused results.

TRANSACTION AWARDS

M&A Deal of the Year

This award will celebrate the onshore or offshore wind farm deal that has most effectively moved the market forwards this year.

M&A deals for onshore and offshore wind assets and portfolios remain a central feature of investment strategies in the sector. But continued global economic uncertainty precipitated a revaluation of traditional norms and approaches.  Those deals that closed were hard fought and many of them were noteworthy in their own right.

Did you expand or reduce your portfolio of onshore wind energy assets in 2025 through successful M&A activity? Have you worked on an exciting and/or financially innovative M&A wind deal, or deals, in the past year? What made your achievements especially compelling or unique?

This category is open to entries from all participants in onshore and offshore wind M&A, whether as buyer, seller, financier or adviser. Judges will accept multiple entries for the same deal as long as the role played in the deal by the entrant is clearly stated.

Project Finance Deal of the Year - Advisers

This award recognises legal and technical advisory companies that closed or advised on a sensational project finance deal involving an offshore, onshore or hybrid project.

The ways that equity and debt are combined in funding packages can play a vital role in successfully reaching financial close at a large wind project. In the best cases, these project finance deals can also open the market’s eyes to unique and pioneering structures that help the industry cope with emerging fiscal challenges. In our project finance awards, we will celebrate the best of these deals – which could also, but not necessarily, be the biggest.

As the volume of project finance deals has increased, it’s easy to overlook just how challenging it is for wind energy advisories to successfully bring projects through to financial close. This award aims to tackle that – shining a spotlight on either a technical or a legal advisor and an associated project finance deal that is noteworthy in the context of best practice and market growth.

Judges are looking for evidence-based thinking that clearly sets out how and why a particular project finance deal was commercially noteworthy. Applicants are encouraged to set out what specific challenges they had to overcome in bringing the deal to the market, while making a clear case for how and why this deal might impact future deal making in the sector.

Project Finance Deal of the Year - Developers

This award recognises development companies that closed a sensational project finance deal involving an offshore, onshore or hybrid project.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

Chief Financial Officer of the Year

This award celebrates a chief financial officer at a business operating in the wind industry who has driven business success and the wider industry in the last 12 months.

Judges are looking for a chief financial officer (or individual with a different title who performs an equivalent role) with an established track record in the wind energy space and who has driven business success this year through their strategic thinking, financial leadership and/or visible industry presence.

In their pursuit of excellence, the individual will have taken that extra step that sets them apart from their peers. Tell us how that was achieved and give examples of its impact.

Finance Professional of the Year

This award will be given to the finance professional judged to have made the most significant contribution to the success of their organisation and business.  Consideration will also be placed on the wider impact that their work might have played on the wider industry, too.

The award will shine a light on individual investors, lenders/originators, asset managers, and financial advisers that have led the way whether through their strategic thinking, financial leadership and/or deal-making.

Please note that judges will not accept entries from Chief Financial Officers (or their equivalent) and that judges are looking for evidence-based demonstrations of genuine excellence and impact – that goes above and beyond industry standards.

Industry Leader of the Year

This award celebrates an individual who has spent much of their career promoting and affecting transformative change in the wind energy space.

Judges are looking for a professional that has spent more than 15 years working in the wind energy industry and has, as a result, an unparalleled understanding of what makes a commercially successful wind project.

Through the course of their career, the winner will have worked intimately in the development, financing and/or operational mechanics of sector-shaping wind energy projects. Indeed, it’s likely they will have built and led a leading commercial entity in one of these three areas. Entries should include evidence of recent work, along with their long-term track record.

Lawyer of the Year

This award champions individuals working on the legal side of the wind industry and contributing to its commercial success.

Whether working for a law firm or in-house, the award winner will have evidenced a significant contribution to the success of their business/wind sector clients and the wider wind industry over the last year.

Judges will weigh up track record, strategic thinking, innovative approaches, and scale of impact.

In their pursuit of excellence, the winning individual will have taken that extra step that sets them apart from their peers.

Project Professional of the Year

This award celebrates an individual working on the project development and/or operational side of the wind industry who has been integral to business success in the last 12 months.  The award recognises the outsized contribution made by one  individual in order to bring a project, campaign or commercial strategy to life.

Entries will be accepted from developers, asset managers, O&M specialists, and those working in supporting corporate functions at wind sector businesses.

For this award, judges are looking for a professional with a record of success, influence, leadership and fresh thinking – recognising that the individual need not sit in a senior management role within the organisation.

Rising Star of the Year

This award seeks to champion individuals working right across the wind energy industry and its supply chain with the potential to become the leaders of tomorrow. What they may lack in experience, they more than make up for in endeavour, innovation, influence and impact.

Entries will clearly evidence the contributions these individuals have made to the wider success of their teams, their companies, and the wind energy projects they’ve worked on.

For this award, judges are looking for a professional with less than 10 years’ working experience, at least 3 of which have been applied to the wind energy sector.

Judging Process

Categories will be judged by a small group of judges and they’ll be assigned based on judges’ expertise and always avoiding any conflicts of interest. Judges will read and score their allocated entry forms, considering any supporting materials submitted. Judges will be asked to give a score for each question within the entry form. These will be combined to give an overall score for each entry. All judges’ scores will then be combined, and only the highest-scoring entries will determine the shortlists. Judges will e-meet to discuss the highest-scoring entries and then agree on the winner for each category. Judges may, at their discretion, award a high commendation on each category.

Confidentiality & Impartiality

To ensure that our awards are impartial, ethical, and transparent, we ask that our judges sign a charter agreeing to:

  • Respect the comments and feedback of other judges and engage in the process comprehensively, from the outset
  • Declare any conflicts of interest, immediately
  • Dedicate sufficient time to reading, judging and scoring the entries
  • Delete all judging materials and marks immediately after the judging period
  • Not allow personal relationships or experiences to influence judging
  • Keep judging discussions confidential and contained only to the judging panel
  • Not share confidential material, judging papers or entries with anyone
  • Not notify anyone that they have won or that they are shortlisted ahead of the official announcements
  • Not give any feedback to entrants as to why they have not won or were not shortlisted – all requests for feedback must be directed to Tamarindo
  • Champion and celebrate the awards programme and serve as an advocate of campaign, as appropriate
