ABO Energy gets green light for 670MWh Northern Ireland storage projects

ABO Energy, formerly ABO Wind, has received planning permission for two battery energy storage schemes in Northern Ireland with a total capacity of 335 MW/ 670 MWh.

The Magherafelt Battery Energy Storage Scheme, located in the Mid Ulster Area of Northern Ireland, will have a capacity of 195 MW/ 390 MWh when operational. Meanwhile, the Coolkeeragh Battery Energy Storage System in Foyle Port in the north-west of the region and will provide 140 MW/ 280 MWh of storage.

Up to now, ABO Energy has constructed battery storage systems with a total capacity of 100MW and has a further 1GW under development.

Last month, the company announced it was constructing a 50-megawatt solar farm in Yebra municipality in Castilla La-Mancha in central Spain, its first turnkey project in the country.
