ACWA Power is working with the Tunisian government to develop a power-to-X plant with a first phase of 4GW renewable energy generation and 2GW electrolyser capacity.

The Saudi Arabian developer has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry, Mines & Energy to explore the potential to develop a three-phase complex that could produce up to 600,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year for export to Europe.

Marco Arcelli, chief executive at ACWA Power, said: “We are excited to work with the Tunisian Government on this visionary project, bringing our expertise in renewables, desalination and green hydrogen to build a bridge with Europe to help reach its decarbonisation targets. This project can also contribute significantly to economic growth, job creation, and sustainable energy solutions, exemplifying our shared vision for a greener future.”
