BP and Equinor end PPA at 1.3GW Empire Wind 2

Oil giants BP and Equinor have agreed with the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority to cancel a key power deal at the 1.3GW Empire Wind 2 offshore wind project.

The companies have announced the cancellation of the Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certificate at the development because they said it no longer made financial sense, due to inflation and supply chain disruption. Molly Morris, president of Equinor Renewables Americas, said the decision would allow the firms “to reset and develop a stronger and more robust project going forward”.
