Casa dos Ventos signs PPA with cleaning products firm

February 28, 2024

Brazilian operator Casa dos Ventos has agreed to supply cleaning products maker Ypê with electricity from the 1GW Rio do Vento Wind Complex in Rio Grande do Norte.

The power purchase agreement is worth a reported 250m Brazilian Reals ($50.5m), with Ypê also becoming a shareholder in the complex. The PPA is for power equivalent to 40% of the company’s annual electricity use and would reduce its emissions by around two million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The partnership is set to last until 2039.

Gustavo de Souza, director of research, development and sustainability at Ypê, said: “The action helps us advance this agenda of reducing the impact on the environment and ensuring energy security, in line with our mission of contributing to the construction of an increasingly better world.”

Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos, said: “This partnership is another step towards reducing Brazil’s CO2 emissions, which also makes it possible to make even more sustainable products available to consumers. Furthermore, it gives Ypê a leading role in managing its energy and boosts the journey towards neutralising emissions from the company’s activities.”
