Spanish oil giant Cepsa and Danish firm C2X are developing a green methanol plant in Huelva, southern Spain, and plan to take a final investment decision in 2025.
The companies have committed to the €1bn project at the United Nations COP28 climate conference in Dubai. The complex is intended to achieve 300,000 tonnes of green methanol production annually. This methanol would be produced from green hydrogen produced at Cepsa’s planned Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley complex.
Cepsa is owned by Mubadala and Carlyle, while C2X is majority owned by AP Moller Holding.
