Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has teamed up with Vietnamese utility PetroVietnam to develop offshore wind projects in the southeast Asian country.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on offshore wind and other renewable energy schemes. Robert Helms, partner at CIP, said the company looks forward “to sharing our knowledge, know-how and technological innovations to deliver Vietnam’s first offshore wind projects in a close collaboration of the parties and drive forward the green transition in the country”.

Stuart Livesey, chief executive of CIP development arm Copenhagen Offshore Partners Vietnam, added: “This important milestone is the result of more than two years of engaged dialogue and relationship building, and it opens the door for our COP and CIP teams to come together with PetroVietnam and support Vietnam’s national survey strategy and work towards delivering of the country’s first offshore wind pilot projects.”

CIP is already developing the 3.5GW La Gan offshore wind farm in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan province with Asiapetro and Novasia.
