Deep Wind grows Baltic interests to 2GW with new win

Deep Wind Offshore has won the rights to develop a second site in Estonian waters with the potential for up to 487MW of offshore wind.

On 21st June, the firm won development rights for the Saare 2.1 site in the Baltic Sea, which has the potential for up to 1.5GW of offshore wind capacity. On Friday 28th June, it also won rights to develop the adjacent Saare 2.2 site with up to 487MW of offshore wind capacity.

Knut Vassbotn, chief executive at Deep Wind Offshore, said: “We are pleased to expand our area for exclusive development. We look forward to the discussions with the Estonian authorities about how this project can contribute to the country reaching its climate goals, enhance energy security, build value chains, and create local jobs.”

Estonia is also due to conclude a tender for the 110MW Saare 3 site this week.
