Deep Wind Offshore wins 1.5GW Estonian site

Deep Wind Offshore has won the rights to develop a 1.5GW offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Estonia.

The company has been successful in Estonia’s auction for the Saare 2.1 site near the island of Saaremaa. It was one of three bidders in the auction, alongside Ignitis Group and Utilitas Wind.

Knut Vassbotn, chief executive of Deep Wind Offshore, said: “Estonia is turning ambitions into action, and we are really excited to have been awarded this site. Deep Wind Offshore will contribute to the country reaching its climate goals, providing energy security, building value chains, and creating new jobs.”

He added that Deep Wind Offshore is committed to developing over 10GW of offshore wind projects within ten years.
