Egypt awards land for 8GW onshore wind pair

The Egyptian government has allocated land for two onshore wind projects with total headline capacity of 8GW in Egypt’s West Sohag region.

Scatec is leading development on a 5GW complex, while Orascom Construction is leading work on a 3GW scheme in a consortium with Engie subsidiary Kahrabel and Japan’s Eurus Energy.

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity & Renewable Energy signed the land deals at a ceremony yesterday. This follows memoranda of understanding agreed for both projects at the COP27 conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022.
