Engie has signed corporate power purchase agreements totalling 118MW to supply Google with power from five onshore wind farms in Belgium.

The companies have signed PPAs for electricity from four new onshore wind farms totalling 26MW, and has agreed an eight-year extension to a 92MW PPA at a fifth project.

Vincent Verbeke, chief executive of Engie Belgium, said: “As the top developer for clean energy corporate PPAs worldwide, we are proud to contribute to the economic feasibility of new investments for renewable projects while supporting the operations and the investments of energy-intensive industries, as well as their local anchorage.”

Frederic Descamps, Google’s data center lead in Belgium, said: “We’re pursuing net zero emissions across our operations and value chain by 2030, supported by an ambitious clean energy goal to operate our data centers and office campuses on 24/7 carbon-free energy. Our ambition to make a positive impact in every grid that we operate in can be met working closely with leading energy companies such as Engie, a long term partner for Google in Belgium, sharing similar commitments to our sustainable goals.”
