Exagen Group granted planning permission for 40MWh UK battery

April 26, 2024

Exagen Group has been granted planning permission by Tewkesbury Borough Council for the 20MW / 40MWh Brockworth Road Energy Reserve, a battery storage project located east of Gloucester in the UK.

Each cycle of the battery will be equivalent to the daily electricity usage of 5000 UK homes, Exagen said in a statement on social media.

There will be an approximately 80-metre long section of buried cable between the battery system and the point of connection into the existing 33kV overhead power line.

“Despite facing the challenge of being on green belt, Tewkesbury Borough Council granted consent because of strong arguments for site selection, large provisions for biodiversity net gain (40 per cent) and the contribution our project will make to the UK’s renewable energy targets,” the statement added.
