Fortescue opens 2GW Australian electrolyser plant

Australian conglomerate Fortescue has opened a 2GW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser factory in Gladstone in Queensland, Australia.

The company said the 15,000 square metre facility is set to make more than 2GW of PEM electrolysers a year. The technology is designed in-house by Fortescue teams in Australia and the US.

Andrew Forrest, executive chair and founder at Fortescue, said: “We are grateful for the Queensland and Federal Government’s vision and early support to help get us started. Together we have laid the cornerstone for what will be a massive new manufacturing industry in Australia creating the potential for thousands of new green energy jobs.”
