Four bidders in the mix for three Estonian sites

Four bidders are set to compete for the rights to develop three offshore wind sites off the coast of Estonia in an auction this June.

Estonia’s Consumer Protection & Technical Regulatory Authority is poised to auction development rights for the Saare 2.1, 2.2 and 3 areas off the west coast of the island of Saaremaa; and yesterday confirmed that four groups have registered their interest.

It has received bids from Deep Wind Offshore, Estonia Offshore Wind DevCo and OÜ Utilitas Wind for all three zones, with Sunly Wind bidding for only Saare 3.

Saare 1 is the largest of the areas, measuring 163.8 sq km and with a starting price of just under €2.5m. Saare 2 measures 88.5 sq km (€1.3m) and Saare 3 is 20.1 sq km (€301,500). Regulators have not confirmed the potential offshore wind capacity of each area.
