Green hydrogen costs up 65% as pipeline expands

The costs of producing green hydrogen have increased between 30% and 65% this year as a result of higher capital, energy and contractor prices, research has shown.

The Hydrogen Council has reported in its ‘Hydrogen Insights 2023’ report that green hydrogen now costs between $4.50/kg and $6.50/kg to produce. It also said that the number of announced green hydrogen projects has grown 35% this year to 1,400, representing combined investment of $570bn until 2030, but that only 7% of projects have achieved a final investment decision.
