Hy2gen signs Hydro-Québec PPA for Canadian plant

June 7, 2024

Hydro-Québec has agreed to supply hydroelectric power to Hy2gen Canada for a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility in Baie-Corneau, Québec.

Hy2gen is set to take a final investment decision on the planned 300MW Courant facility in the second half of 2026, with fuel production scheduled to start in 2029. The company said the Courant scheme was located so it only had short distances to transport green ammonia to potential off-takers in the chemical production sector.

Cyril Dufau-Sansot, chief executive of Hy2gen, said: “This recognition is a vote of confidence in our vision and commitment to producing green hydrogen in Quebec. This is a giant step forward for Hy2gen Canada and the renewable energy industry, enabling us to make a significant contribution to decarbonizing the economy and achieving Quebec’s ambitious sustainable development goals.”
