March 4, 2024

Munich-based large-scale battery storage developer Kyon Energy has received approval for a 100MW / 200MWh storage facility in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.

Construction of the new facility – in Dahlem – is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with commissioning to follow by the end of 2026.

“Large battery energy storage systems are key players in the transformation of our energy infrastructure,” said Florian Antwerpen, managing director at Kyon Energy. “They massively expand the potential for sustainable energy generation and are crucial for grid stability and accelerating the energy transition.”

Kyon Energy has developed storage projects with a capacity of 770MW. A total of 120MW are already in operation, with 350MW under construction and 300MW ready for construction.
