LichtBlick and ENERGISTO form ‘GigaCharge’ BESS JV

June 17, 2024

German energy supplier LichtBlick and the project development company ENERGISTO have formed a joint venture, ‘GigaCharge’, that will develop large-scale battery storage projects.

GigaCharge anticipates securing the relevant permits for its first storage projects – which will be up to 400MWh in capacity – later this year.

“Electricity demand will continue to increase in the coming years and we need further expansion of solar and wind energy. Only large amounts of storage capacity can significantly reduce short-term grid overloads in times of high energy production, said Dr. Enno Wolf, COO of LichtBlick.

Thilo von Haas, founding director of ENERGISTO, added: “LichtBlick and ENERGISTO are combining their skills to develop and implement electricity storage. The philosophy and strategy of both companies, the identification of market developments and opportunities, and not least the shared attitude towards people, energy and the environment have led to this step. Together we can drive more large-scale storage projects forward more quickly – and strengthen the grid of tomorrow.”
