Louisiana regulators back two nearshore wind farms

Regulators in US state Louisiana have backed plans by Vestas subsidiary Steelhead Americas to develop a pilot nearshore wind farm in the Gulf of Mexico.

Cajun Wind is set to be located in a 59,653-acre site off the coast of the state’s Cameron Parish, and regulators last week announced they have decided to award the project an operating licence.

In addition, the regulators also backed plans for a second nearshore wind project, called Diamond Offshore Wind, in a 6,162-acre site off the coast of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes.

Both projects are in the early stages of development.
