German developers Nextwind and VSB have teamed up to triple the size of the Zörbig wind farm in Germany’s Saxony-Anholt region to over 115MW.

The Zörbig wind farm is currently made up of 27 turbines totalling 40.5MW, which will be replaced by 16 Vestas turbines totalling 115.2MW. Commissioning is due in 2027.

Thomas Winkler, managing director of VSB Germany, said: “Due to its dimensions, the Zörbig repowering project is another important step towards the green energy landscape of tomorrow. The interaction between citizens, politicians, authorities and project planners is extremely positive and constructive in this joint project. With a strong partner like Nextwind, we can now move swiftly into implementation.”

Werner Süss, co-chief executive of Nextwind, said: “Together with our partner VSB, we are now quickly implementing the construction of the new wind turbines in Zörbig. The close and trusting cooperation between VSB and Nextwind in this project brings benefits for all sides: It’s a good day for the town of Zörbig, the landowners and the energy transition.”
