Octopus buys site for 1GW wind farm in Australia

Octopus Energy’s Australian subsidiary has bought 28,000 hectares of land in New South Wales to develop its A$3.5bn ($2.3bn) 1GW Merino onshore wind farm.

The company said the site in Deniliquin is next to the site of its operational 400MW Saltbush wind farm, which was formerly known as Hay Plains. It added that the Merino wind farm would be supported by utility-scale solar and battery storage capacity.

Darren Brown, Co-Managing Director at Octopus Australia, said: “The acquisition marks a major milestone in Octopus Australia’s strategy to build a portfolio of energy assets which model what a future clean energy generation base will look like in Australia.”
