Origin buys 1.5GW Yanco Delta project

Australian utility Origin Energy has agreed to buy the 1.5GW Yanco Delta wind project in New South Wales, Australia, from Virya Energy.

Yanco Delta is part of the New South Wales government’s South West Renewable Energy Zone, which also includes an 800MWh battery system. The scheme is located in Riverina district.

Origin is set to pay $125m up-front for the Yanco Delta wind project and make extra payments of $175m as the project meets development milestone.

Frank Calabria, chief executive at Origin, said: “Yanco Delta is a large-scale, advanced and therefore highly strategic wind development project. With the key planning and regulatory approvals secured, and with significant plans for supporting infrastructure and transmission in place, the acquisition of Yanco Delta represents a major step forward in our journey to transition Origin’s portfolio to cleaner energy.”
