Northland Power and Polish utility Orlen’s subsidiary Energa Wytwarzanie have set up a company to provide offshore wind farm management services in the Baltic Sea.

The pair said Baltic Offshore Service Solution will provide a wide range of commercial and technical services, and would oversee Orlen’s 24-hour offshore wind farm management centre. Energa Wytwarzanie currently manages six onshore wind tarms totalling 244MW.

Jarosław Dybowski, executive director for energy at Orlen, said the Baltic’s offshore wind potential is around 90GW, which would open commercial opportunities for the new company. Orlen and Northland are developing the 1.2GW Baltic Power scheme, and Orlen said it plans to invest in five additional projects.

“At the Orlen Group, we are poised to capitalise on the emerging business opportunities in the planning and operation of new wind farms. To this end, we will leverage our existing expertise from onshore projects, also drawing on the experience of our partner [Northland], a global leader in the offshore wind industry,” he said.
