Ørsted is set to take full control of the 924MW Sunrise Wind scheme in New York waters if the project is successful in the US state’s upcoming offshore wind solicitation.
The Danish utility has signed an agreement to buy the 50% stake it does not currently own in the project from US utility Eversource. Bids are due today in New York’s fourth offshore wind solicitation.
David Hardy, executive vice president and chief executive of region Americas at Ørsted, said: “Following a thorough risk review of our US portfolio, we’re comfortable with taking full ownership of Sunrise Wind if the project is awarded in New York 4. This transaction is a value-accretive opportunity for Ørsted and the best path forward for the project.”
This would be Ørsted’s third offshore wind project in the US northeast, after Revolution Wind and South Fork.
