RWE’s US arm has formed a partnership with US developer WhiteRock Renewables that it said would help boost its wind, solar and storage portfolio with projects totalling up to 5GW.

RWE Clean Energy has agreed to work with WhiteRock to accelerate the development of its wind, solar and storage portfolio. WhiteRock is set to originate and develop between 4GW and 5GW of schemes, and RWE will have the option to buy the developments when they are ready for a final investment decision.

RWE has a 36GW pipeline of US onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects, and said working with WhiteRock would support its expansion.

Hanson Wood, senior vice president of utility-scale development for RWE Clean Energy, said: “To support our world-class development team in executing towards RWE’s ambitious US growth strategy, we are enlisting WhiteRock — a top-tier developer with a proven track record of delivery and more than 70 years’ combined development experience — to help supercharge our growth trajectory over the next five years.”

John Wycherley and Brett O’Connor, co-founders at WhiteRock, said: “When seeking to expand WhiteRock, we evaluated various business models that would enable expansion of our development pipeline. The relationship with RWE presented the perfect opportunity to create a collaborative platform for growth whilst providing an avenue for the projects we develop to become operating assets realizing the benefits to local communities and promoting the expansion of clean energy in the US.”
