March 15, 2024

Manufacturing troubles with Siemens Gamesa onshore turbines have hit the 160MW Odal wind farm in Norway.

The project’s owners Akershus Energi, Cloudberry and KLP have reported that 15 of the 34 turbines at the 160MW project have been stopped, with repairs scheduled for after Easter.

The companies said 13 of the Siemens Gamesa turbines are out of service because of damage related to a manufacturing defect in the blades, and two more are out of service due to other errors or damage. The remaining 19 are still in operation.

Siemens Gamesa has experienced major difficulties in the last year as a result of problems with the rotor blades in its 4.X and 5 onshore turbine model, although its parent company Siemens Energy said the problems are now being rectified and that the “worst is over”.
