Developers in Germany added almost 17.3GW of renewables capacity to the grid in 2023, but wind accounted for only 3.2GW (or 18.5%) of that as solar dominated.

Germany’s federal network agency Bundesnetzagentur has released preliminary figures showing the country’s renewables capacity grew 12% year-on-year to 170GW in 2023, with solar accounting for 14.1GW (81.5%) of that new capacity.

Onshore wind farms totalling 2.9GW came online in Germany in 2023, and Parkwind switched on the 257MW Arcadis Ost 1, which was Germany’s only new offshore wind farm to be commissioned last year.
