Statkraft has agreed to supply aluminium producer Novelis with 58GWh of electricity a year from wind and solar farms in Germany.

Novelis is set to use the power to cover around 40% of the electricity needed for two of its large manufacturing plants in Germany: Nachterstadt Recycling and Nachterstadt Rolling. This corresponds to 16% of the company’s electricity use in Germany.

Norwegian utility Statkraft is set to begin supplying power from 1st March.

Emilio Braghi, executive vice president at Novelis and president at Novelis Europe, said: “Enabling our plants to power a significant part of their production with renewable electricity while decreasing carbon emissions and preserving natural resources, is a perfect match to our Novelis purpose and brings us an important step forward on our sustainability journey.”
