Four UK organisations including The Crown Estate have set out plans to triple UK offshore wind manufacturing capacity in the next decade with an Industrial Growth Plan.

The Crown Estate, Crown Estate Scotland, Offshore Wind Industry Council and RenewableUK have set out a plan to increase employment in the UK’s offshore wind manufacturing sector from 32,000 now to over 100,000 by 2030, and to around 130,000 by 2030. They said the measures would also boost the UK economy by £25bn by 2035.

The Industrial Growth Plan identifies five areas in the offshore wind supply chain where investment should be prioritised: blades, cables, foundations, towers and other key components and services. It also proposes increasing support for automation and artificial intelligence, and includes plans for expanded testing facilities for cutting-edge offshore turbine technology.
