German energy group Uniper has formed a joint venture with Polish developer WAP Energia to develop six onshore wind farms totalling 600MW in western Poland.

This is part of Uniper’s plan to invest €8bn in renewable energy generation projects and changes to its power plants by 2030. It is looking to develop 10GW of onshore wind and solar projects by 2030 in key European markets including France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Sweden and the UK.

Jörg Lennertz, chief executive of Uniper Renewables said: “Poland is experiencing rapid growth in renewable energy generation and is one of our core markets to develop renewables. As part of our strategic vision, our Uniper team in Poland together with local partners is expanding the pipeline in wind and photovoltaic in the Polish market to gigawatt scale. Next to co-development partnerships we are expanding our own origination and greenfield development capacities.”
