Varberg Energi has teamed up with OX2 to buy electricity from the 400MW Galene offshore wind farm and solar projects in Halland, Sweden.

The companies have entered into a cooperation deal with the long-term goal of signing a power purchase agreement at Galene, which is set to be made up of 21 turbines. Construction is due to start in 2026 with completion scheduled for 2028 at the earliest.

Björn Sjöström, chief executive of Varberg Energi, said: “We have many requests linked to renewable energy. Larger energy users know that we have a lot of flexibility in our portfolio and that we can deliver renewable energy together with flexible solutions. Together with OX2, we can ensure that the renewable energy is also produced in the same area as it is used.”

Hillevi Priscar, country manager for Sweden at OX2, said: “This collaboration with Varberg Energi creates good conditions for contributing to the restructuring of the industry on the west coast and for securing a reliable supply of renewable energy in the region.”
