Norwegian utility Statkraft is promoting Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal to succeed Christian Rynning-Tønnesen as its chief executive from 1st April.

Vartdal is moving into the role from her current position as Statkraft’s executive vice president Nordics, which she has held for two years, and before that led the company’s new-build wind and solar projects in Europe. She replaces Rynning-Tønnesen, who is stepping down after 14 years as chief executive.

“Statkraft is well-positioned and has great opportunities to contribute to the green transition and create green jobs in Norway and internationally. Climate change and the need for energy security increase the demand for renewable energy while technology development and scale reduce costs. This provides opportunities for continued strong and profitable growth as long as we continue to work as efficiently, safely, and sustainably as possible,” she said.
